Lieveling van het publiek

Met zijn balletopera Les Indes galantes, die in 1735 in première ging, laat Rameau zien dat hij zowel de heldhaftige toon van de Tragedie-libriek als het onderhoudende karakter van de balletopera's die sinds de jaren 1720 zo populair zijn bij het publiek onder de knie heeft. De perfectionistische componist bracht min of meer ingrijpende veranderingen aan in dit succesvolle werk, dat vervolgens herhaaldelijk op het repertoire van de Parijse Opera werd gezet, voor bijna elke revival, inclusief de laatste reeks voorstellingen in 1761 tijdens zijn leven. De opname van György Vashegyi voor GLOSSA is gebaseerd op deze versie en bevat ook een prachtige cast van zangers: Véronique Gens, Chantal Santon-Jefery, Katherine Watson, Reinoud van Mechelen en vele anderen. De dirigent en zijn Orfeo Orkest onderstrepen hun internationale toppositie onder de vertolkers in dit repertoire in hun vierde opname met Franse barokopera.
