De "Tratado de Glosas" van Diego Ortiz, gepubliceerd in Rome in 1553 en herontdekt in de 20e eeuw, is een fundamentele verhandeling over het spelen van de viola da gamba. De variaties, die "Recercadas" worden genoemd, openen een onvergelijkbaar panorama van de Italiaanse instrumentale muziek van de Renaissance. In deze heruitgave van een opname uit 1990 zijn Jordi Savall en zijn topensemble in topvorm. De onderzoekende geest en de inventiviteit van zowel de componist als de uitvoerders maken de arrangementen van verschillende thema's zoals "La Folia" en "Doulce memoire" tot een groot luisterplezier.
