Dit project was het eerste van zijn soort dat Jordi Savall in 2005 uitgaf – een speciale luxe cd-editie met twee SACD’s en tekst in meerdere talen in boekvorm gegoten. Inmiddels zijn deze edities wereldberoemd en is heeft Savall al 10 van dergelijke producties op zijn naam staan. Dit eerste boek heeft als onderwerp het misschien wel belangrijkste werk uit de Spaanstalige literatuur. In 1605 publiceerde Juan de la Cuesta het eerste deel van Miguel de Cervantes’ ‘El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quixote de la Mancha’: een satire op het populaire genre van de ridderroman, en indirect op de rooms-katholieke kerk, de Spaanse politiek, en wat men er in de afgelopen eeuwen nog meer in heeft gelezen. Een roman met humor en briljante karaktertekeningen die zich kemerkt door de vele toespelingen op muziek en die verraden dat Cervantes een groot liefhebber en kenner was. Een goed idee dus van Jordi Savall om deze passages samen met de muziek waarnaar zij impliciet of expliciet verwijzen op cd samen te brengen. Het resultaat is een verzameling Romances, Canciones en instrumentale dansen die een muzikale omlijsting vormen van een hoogtepunt uit de wereldliteratuur, en tevens een beeld schetsen van een land en tijdperk. Op sommige plekken horen we een verteller spreken. Het boek bevat bijna 300 pagina’s aan tekst en twee SACD’s.
