Bruhns - Cantatas 1

Toen hij stierf, was Nicolaus Bruhns pas 31 jaar oud, en hij liet slechts twaalf vocale en vijf orgelwerken na. Maar ze zijn van zo'n hoge kwaliteit dat hij moet worden beschouwd als een van de beste en belangrijkste componisten in Noord-Duitsland tussen Buxtehude en Bach. Buxtehude was zijn leraar geweest en had zo'n hoge dunk van hem dat hij Bruhns aanbeval voor een betrekking in Kopenhagen. Bruhns werkte daar als vioolvirtuoos en componist tot 1689, keerde toen terug naar Noord-Duitsland en werd organist van de hoofdkerk in Husum. De meeste van de werken die hij achterliet zijn daar geschreven. Bruhns was een van de componisten die Bach als voorbeeld beschouwde, en alleen al daarom is hij van bijzonder belang voor de Bach-specialist Masaaki Suzuki. Op deze eerste van twee SACD's dirigeert Suzuki het ensemble van het Yale Institute of Sacred Music vanaf het orgel. Deze SACD heeft een speelduur van maar liefst 86 minuten!! Waar voor uw geld dus.
