“Vol vuur, geest en leven.” zo beschreef Mozart dit werk van zijn tijdgenoot, dat hier voor het eerst op deze nieuwe set van 2 cd's wordt gepresenteerd.

Mozarts positieve oordeel over Josef Myslivecek (1737-1781) was bedoeld om de luisteraar bewust te maken, want het feit dat de uiterst kritische Salzburgse componist zich positief uitspreekt over een collega is een absolute uitzondering. Zijn oratorium Adamo & Eva, uitgevoerd in Florence in 1771, componeerde precies in de tijd dat het contact met de familie Mozart bijzonder nauw leek te zijn.

Het werk dat Il Gardellino samen met solisten Valerio Contaldo, Luciana Mancini, Roberta Mameli en Alice Rossiunder en onder leiding van Peter van Heyghen presenteert, geeft een goede indruk van wat Mozart waardeerde aan de muziek van Myslivecek: melodisch vernuft en transparantie en lichtheid van muzikale taal. Sterk aanbevolen.

"Myslivecek’s setting is unfailingly attractive, but is overly generous in some extended arias and rarely penetrates the story’s darker side. Peter Van Heyghen directs Il Gardelino with vigour, and the solo performances are superb. Valerio Contaldo brings an arresting expressive range to the tortured Adam and he is well matched by Luciana Mancini’s Eve.
