Sopraan Natalya Romaniw en pianiste Lada Valesová nemen ons op dit weelderige album mee op reis door Slavische liederen. De in Wales geboren sopraan Natalya Romaniw is van Oekraïense afkomst en haar wortels verkent ze in dit recital, dat is opgedragen aan haar Oekraïense grootvader. Het royale programma omvat een schat aan muziek van Russische en Tsjechische componisten. Dvorák's Love Songs, Op.83, vormen de kern van het album, en zijn idiomatische Tsjechische stijl beïnvloedde Janácek, van wie we een selectie Moravische volksliederen horen. Novák was op zijn beurt gefascineerd door Moravische volksmuziek en werd beïnvloed door Janácek; Nováks talent voor melodie komt tot uiting in Romaniws interpretaties van zijn liedjes. Uit Rusland horen we ondertussen magische, bijna operamuziek van Rimski-Korsakov, de krachtige passie van Tsjaikovski en enkele van Rachmaninovs meest voortreffelijke liederen. Natalya Romaniw staat vaak bekend om het Slavische karakter van haar stem, een kwaliteit die op deze opname volledig tot uiting komt.
