Le Devin Du Village

Op het eerste gezicht is Rousseau's Le Devin du Village niet meer dan een klein intermezzo in de trant van Pergolesi's La Serva Padrona. Maar het verbergt ook sociale explosieven, want het herdersechtpaar Colin en Colette is bepaald niet komisch getekend, zoals meestal het geval is. Rousseau's Pastorale is veeleer een lofzang op het eenvoudige plattelandsleven en een regelrechte afkeuring van het verdorven gedrag aan het hof - en werd uitgerekend in het kasteel van Fontainebleau voor het eerst opgevoerd. Sébastien d'Hérin en Les Nouveaux Caractères hebben het schijnbaar eenvoudige maar in feite complexe werk opgenomen voor CHÂTEAU DE VERSAILLES.
