In zijn vroege jaren in dienst van de Esterházy prinsen vond Joseph Haydn talloze gelegenheden om zijn vaardigheden als instrumentaal solist (zowel op de viool als op de piano!) en als componist te demonstreren; al zijn concerten, waarvan de meeste in de jaren 1760 zijn geschreven, bieden immers een glimp van een briljant kunstenaar die geleidelijk afstand nam van de galante stijl en een nieuwe muzikale dialoog ontwikkelde die al snel aanleiding gaf tot de klassieke stijl. Deze werken werden op maat gemaakt voor specifieke virtuozen in Haydns tijd en krijgen nu de onverdeelde aandacht van het ensemble Gli Incogniti en zijn geïnspireerde solisten Amandine Beyer en Marco Ceccato. During his first years in the service of the Esterházy princes, Joseph Haydn had every opportunity to show what he was capable of accomplishing as both instrumental soloist (on violin or keyboard) and composer; in fact, all his concertos, most of which date from the 1760s, offer a glimpse of a brilliant artist who gradually moved away from the style galant by inventing a new musical dialogue soon to become the Classical style.
