De pianist Alexander Melnikov heeft zich ontwikkeld tot een specialist in de historische uitvoeringspraktijk, zij het met een focus op de Romantiek en de vroegmoderne periode. Na zijn knap geconcipieerde experimentele arrangement "Vier werken - vier piano's" wijdt hij zich nu aan de componist Debussy op een Érard vleugel uit het einde van de 19e eeuw. De componist, die zelf een uitstekend pianist was maar er nooit een carrière van maakte, schreef zijn grote cycli voor het instrument, waaronder de "Préludes", pas toen hij meer dan 40 was - na de eeuwwisseling. Voor de weinig bekende transcriptie van zijn beroemde orkestwerk "La Mer" voor piano vierhandig, wordt Melnikov bijgestaan door de pianiste Olga Pashchenko, die tevens een historisch onderlegd specialiste is.
