Santoro: Symphonies Nos. 11 & 12/Concerto Grosso/Three Fragments On Bach

Claudio Santoro's productieve oeuvre omvat een cyclus van 14 symfonieën, algemeen erkend als de belangrijkste in zijn soort in Brazilië. Alle werken in dit programma dateren uit Santoro's opmerkelijke laatste decennium, waarin hij meer traditionele en eclectische stijlen combineerde met zijn eerdere experimenten. Zowel het Concerto Grosso als de Drie Fragmenten over BACH werden geschreven voor studentenorkest, maar zijn niettemin substantiële stukken die zijn meesterschap in het schrijven voor strijkers tonen. De Elfde Symfonie is een van de dichtste en meest dramatische werken in de cyclus, waarvan de finale explodeert in een toespeling op het begin van Brahms' Eerste Symfonie, terwijl de Twaalfde Symfonie een ongebruikelijke 'sinfonia concertante' is voor negen solisten en orkest.
