Luigi Dallapiccola's eenakter Il Prigioniero wordt door velen beschouwd als het meesterwerk van de componist die als eerste in zijn geboorteland Italië de twaalftoonstechniek toepaste. Dit beklemmende werk, geschreven aan het eind van de jaren veertig, gaat over een gevangene die een Kafkaësk pad aflegt naar zijn dood, waarbij hoop een kwellende rol speelt. De opname van deze moderne klassieker met Gianandrea Noseda en bewezen Deense krachten wordt aangevuld met drie koorwerken van de componist: Estate (1932) voor mannenkoor en twee zettingen naar gedichten van Michelangelo Buonarroti voor gemengd koor.
