Prachtig klinkende werken

De Prophetiae Sibyllarum behoren tot de meest fascinerende composities van de 16e eeuw en tot de belangrijkste werken van Orlando di Lasso. Lasso behandelde een thema dat in de 15e eeuw langzaam weer opdook: de profetieën van de Sybillen. Stephen Rice en het Brabant Ensemble, met hun onberispelijke stijl en intuïtieve uitvoering, zijn de perfecte vertolkers van deze veeleisende muziek. Met welluidende frasering en heldere toon brengen zij deze complexe en prachtig klinkende werken tot leven.

"De Prophetiae Sibyllarum vormen een van de hoogtepunten uit het immense oeuvre van Orlando di Lasso, die we ook wel kennen als Orlande de Lassus (ca.1530-1594). Deze dertiendelige compositie bestaat uit een proloog, gevolgd door twaalf ‘profetieën’ van evenzoveel Sibyllen. Deze wijze vrouwen komen uit verschillende plaatsen en hun voorspellingen hebben dan ook elk een ander karakter. The Brabant Ensemble, niet afkomstig uit Brabant maar uit Engeland, is een van de meest vooraanstaande vocale ensembles op het gebied van renaissancemuziek. Onder leiding van Stephen Rice krijgt de compositie een uitvoering volgens de laatste stand der musicologische inzichten, maar zeker zo belangrijk is de hoorbare liefde van de zangers voor de muziek."
