Isata Kanneh-Mason (piano)

Op haar debuutalbum voor Decca Classics heeft de jonge pianiste Isata Kanneh-Mason werken opgenomen van een van de belangrijkste componisten uit de Romantiek - Clara Schumann. Net als haar broer Sheku Kanneh-Mason studeert de pianiste momenteel aan de Royal Academy of Music in Londen. Haar indrukwekkende ervaring omvat zowel intieme recitals als kamermuziekavonden in diverse formaties en concerten met grote orkesten.

Voor het album "Romance" heeft zij muziek opgenomen uit verschillende fasen van het leven van Clara Schumann, van het jeugdige Pianoconcert in A klein, op.7, met het Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, tot de rijpe pracht van haar Pianosonate in G klein. Clara componeerde het Pianoconcert op veertienjarige leeftijd en bracht het twee jaar later in première in het Leipziger Gewandhaus onder leiding van Felix Mendelssohn. Andere werken op het album zijn de 3 Romances Op. 11, het Scherzo No. 2 Op. 14, en de 3 Romances Op. 22. De pianist combineert deze muziek op knappe wijze met zelden opgenomen transcripties van liederen van Robert Schumann: waaronder diens beroemde Mondnacht. "Romance" is een geslaagd debuut dat werken uit verschillende creatieve fasen presenteert en zo Clara Schumanns compositorische ontwikkeling op levendige wijze onthult.
