Rachmaninoff: Symphony 1 & Symphonic Dances

Met de opname van Sergei Rachmaninoffs 1e Symfonie en zijn Symfonische Dansen beginnen het Philadelphia Orchestra en zijn chef-dirigent Yannick Nézet-Séguin hun cyclus van symfonische werken van de Russische componist, die in het 150e jubileumjaar 2023 voltooid zullen zijn. Het Philadelphia Orchestra heeft altijd een speciale band gehad met de muziek van Rachmaninoff die zelf enkele van zijn composities aan het orkest en zijn toenmalige chef-dirigent, voor première toevertrouwde. Bewust combineert het album de Eerste Symfonie met deze Symfonische Dansen, Rachmaninoffs laatste compositie, waarin herhaaldelijk het muzikale materiaal van het vroege werk doorklinkt. Met deze nieuwe symfonische Cyclus, presenteren het Philadelphia Orchestra en Yannick Nézet-Séguin een vervolg op de veelgeprezen opnames van de Piano-orkestwerken met Daniil Trifonov.
