La Fille de Madame Angot van Charles Lecoq (1832-1918) is sinds de première in Parijs in 1873 een van de meest succesvolle Franse operettes. Dat het in Duitsland maar weinig bekend is, komt waarschijnlijk niet in de laatste plaats door de erfelijke vijandschap tussen de twee naties. Het label van de onvermoeibare Palazetto Bru Zane Foundation biedt hier de eerste complete opname van de originele versie, waardoor het begrijpelijk wordt waarom het stuk, dat barst van de aanstekelijke deuntjes, meer dan 400 uitvoeringen beleefde in het Théâtre des Folies-Dramatiques en een triomftocht over de hele wereld maakte.
