Anne Cambier (soprano), Maiko Inoue (piano)
"I’m very glad to present to you my new cd of American songs. This repertoire is been of great importance at the start of my career. Quite a long time ago, when I started my singing lessons with Noelle Barker. Noelle gave me the score of “Six Elisabethan songs” by Dominik Argento. She wrote a lovely quote “For Anne, with love and all good wishes from Noelle Barker March 1990”. “You must sing these, they will suite you wonderfully”. Noelle Barker was my singing teacher, mentor, friend for 25 years. She had the wonderful skill of choosing the right repertoire at the right time. When she passed away in may 2013 the idea came to me to record these songs as a tribute to her in remembrance of all the wonderful things she taught me. The Barber songs have been my real start as a professional singer in Belgium after my studies in London. It was in a production of Guy Coolen of Muziektheater Transparant (Een leugen van schoonheid) back in 1994-1995. I also added the song cycle “I hate music”. Leonard Bernstein was of course not only a wonderful conductor, musician but also a great composer. I love the sense of humor in his music! To fulfill the cd Maiko Inoué plays the beautiful three preludes by George Gershwin, also a great American composer whom we couldn’t forget."
