In hun reeks opnames van Respighi's orkestwerken presenteren het Orkest van Luik en John Neschling ditmaal enkele van de populairste stukken (naast de Romeinse Trilogie). Het Botticelli Cryptichon, geconcipieerd voor klein orkest, ademt de frisheid van de beroemde schilderijen van de renaissanceschilders. "Il Tramonto" was oorspronkelijk voor zang en strijkkwartet, maar wordt vaak uitgevoerd met een grotere strijkerssectie, zoals hier.

De afsluiting wordt gevormd door de Vier Kerkramen, die Respighi in 1925 voltooide als orkestsuite. Pas toen gaf hij de delen hun titels, en het is dus duidelijk dat het hier niet gaat om muzikale beschrijvingen van concrete modellen.
