Ronald Brautigam (fortepiano)

Als er ooit een prijs was geweest voor de uitvinding van een genre door één enkele componist, dan zou Mendelssohn die zeker hebben gewonnen voor zijn "Liederen zonder woorden". De term gaat terug op een brief uit 1828 waarin zijn zuster Fanny meldde dat zij als verjaardagscadeau van haar broer een "lied zonder woorden" had gekregen. Al snel werd het genre populair en werd het ook door andere componisten overgenomen. Onder hen was Robert Schumann, die Mendelssohn vooral om deze pianostukken zeer bewonderde. Voor deze opname heeft Ronald Brautigam gekozen voor een fortepiano uit het atelier van Paul McNulty, een replica van een Pleyel vleugel uit 1830.
