Twee van de hier opgenomen werken zijn opgedragen aan de grote vioolvirtuoos Pablo de Sarasate: het korte Fantaisie-ballet en het uitgebreide Concerto russe. Dit laatste vierdelige werk is gebaseerd op thema's uit twee bruiloftsliederen die Rimsky-Korsakov had gepubliceerd in zijn verzameling "100 Russische volksliederen". Het afsluitende pianoconcert was Lalo's laatste grote werk, geschreven in 1888. Anders dan in de vioolconcerten is het solo-instrument hier verweven in het orkestrale deel. Er is dus weinig ruimte voor de solist om te schitteren. Dit is wellicht de reden waarom het concerto nauwelijks op programmatoelichtingen voorkomt en waarom ook deze opname een zeldzaamheid is.
