String trios op. 9

Voor zijn tweede opname op BIS heeft Trio Zimmermann gekozen voor Beethovens Trios op. 9, die de componist zelf als een van zijn beste werken beschouwde. Hij schreef ze in 1796-98, nadat hij al twee vroege bijdragen aan het genre had geleverd, maar nog geheel onder invloed van Mozarts grote Divertimento K563. De Trio's op. 9 markeren het hoogtepunt, tegelijk het eindpunt, in Beethovens werk voor het strijktrio - daarna wendde hij zich geheel tot het strijkkwartet. Maar zij zijn veel meer dan een voorbereidende oefening voor kwartetcompositie; integendeel, zij zijn kwalitatief heel wat beter dan de vroege strijkkwartetten van de meester. - In 2010 presenteerde het in 2007 opgerichte Trio Zimmermann zijn eerste productie met Mozarts Divertimento K563, die door de critici werd geprezen als een "nieuwe referentie-opname die nog lang geldig zal zijn".
