Dutilleux kreeg vooral internationale erkenning met zijn Symfonie nr. 2 (1959) en met orkestwerken als "Métaboles" en zijn Celloconcert. Maar wat was daarvoor?

Ter gelegenheid van de 100ste verjaardag van de componist presenteert het Orchestre National onder leiding van Pascal Rophé een programma dat zich bewust concentreert op werken die vóór 1954 werden geschreven. En ze laten de meester van een heel andere kant zien, namelijk als componist voor toneel en film.

Sommige werken verschijnen hier in een eerste opname (althans in de opgenomen versie; dit betreft met name de liederen met orkestbegeleiding).
