Ach susser Trost: Leipzig cantatas

Al decennialang staat Philippe Herreweghe met zijn Collegium Vocale Gent garant voor gloedvolle Bach-vertolkingen. Toch zal de eigenzinnige dirigent niet snel aan een integrale cyclus van alle Bach-cantates beginnen. Hij moet immers een directe klik met de muziek hebben, dus kiest hij ze liever zelf uit. Gelukkig zijn er genoeg mooie cantates, zoals deze uit Leipzig, waar Herreweghe voor valt en waarmee hij Bach als een waar gevoelsmens van vlees en bloed neer kan zetten. En dat doet hij onvergetelijk mooi.

De vier cantates die Philippe Herreweghe voor deze opname selecteerde dateren uit het eerste jaar van Bachs activiteit in Leipzig. Ze zijn tussen eind juli en begin september 1723 in een strak tempo geschreven en onderstrepen vooral de duidelijke inspanning van de componist om originele muzikale voorstellen te formuleren. Hij liet de musici en luisteraars voortdurend zien dat hij hen niet de gewone 'cantor's music' voorschotelde, maar heilige muziek schreef als een echte kapelmeester. In deze eerste bundel Bachcantates voor het label PHI vertolkt het Collegium Vocale Gent voor het eerst enkele cantates (BWV 25 en 46).
