Na haar goed ontvangen debuut met Weill, Zemlinsky en Korngold, stelt mezzosopraan Kate Lindsey zich hier voor met een tweede favoriet repertoire: muziek uit de 18e eeuw. Samen met Jonathan Cohen en Arcangelo heeft zij een programma opgenomen rond de mythe van Ariadne, die, alleen achtergelaten door Theseus op het eiland Naxos, klaagt over haar lot. Het verhaal van de teleurgestelde liefde inspireerde o.a. Alessandro Scarlatti, George Frideric Händel en Joseph Haydn tot het schrijven van elk drie bijzonder expressieve cantates, waarbij Haydns werk hier te horen is in de kundig georkestreerde versie van zijn leerling Sigismund Neukomm. Met haar melodieuze stem, zeker en zelfverzekerd, handelt Kate Lindsey alle technische eisen met gemak af, ontroerend in emotioneel potentieel. De artistiek leider van 'Arcangelo', Jonathan Cohen, hij is dirigent, cellist en klavecinist, omringt haar met zijn musici en maakt de CD rondom tot een luistergenot.
