The Bosnian singer has made several Sevdah albums before this one (without using her surname) but Damar is her most satisfying yet — a set of songs from the Balkans with an ear that listens more widely. There are Flamenco flourishes embellishing the sweet melody of the traditional Macedonian song “Tvotje Oèi Leno Mori”; piano passages from Bojan Zulfikarpasic recall 1950s Oran; there are echoes of Argentina and Japan.
