PIANO SONATAS 2, 6 & 8

In dit eerste deel van een complete cyclus van de Prokofjevsonates onthult zijn landgenoot Alexander Melnikov drie emblematische werken. De schitterende Tweede Sonate dateert uit 1912, toen de componist nog student was aan het conservatorium van Sint-Petersburg; met de Zesde (1939) en Achtste (1944) ontmoeten we de meester in zijn volle rijpheid, ondergedompeld in de donkerste jaren van de Grote Terreur en de oorlog. Echo's van zijn muziek voor het theater, lyriek en geweld vermengen zich te midden van ultravirtuoos pianospel.
