Een hartverscheurende en provocerende tragedie

De Dresden Philharmonic, het Sächsische Staatsoperakoor Dresden en dirigent Daniel Oren presenteren Verdi's meesterwerk La Traviata met een topcast waaronder René Barbera als Alfredo, Lester Lynch als Germont en wereldsterrensopraan Lisette Oropesa als Violetta. Verdi's opera uit 1853 was revolutionair omdat hij een thema uit zijn eigen tijd nam in plaats van de gebruikelijke historisch verre verhalen. Interessant is dat dit tragische verhaal over een vrouw die haar liefde opoffert om de eer van de familie van haar minnaar te redden nog steeds even fris en relevant lijkt, wat de niet aflatende populariteit ervan verklaart. La Traviata is een eindeloze uitstorting van onvergetelijke melodieën met een aangrijpend dramatisch tempo en een verhaal dat zowel hartverscheurend als provocerend is. De hoofdrol van de sopraan verschuift geleidelijk van coloratuurvirtuositeit naar een meer lyrisch, dramatisch idioom naarmate de tragedie zich ontvouwt, en deze uitvoering toont Oropesa's vloeiendheid in beide stijlen. Na de titelrol te hebben gezongen in 's werelds grootste operahuizen, legt deze studio-opname haar onvergelijkbare interpretatie vast voor toekomstige generaties.
