Kwartetten uit verschillende creatieve periodes

De internationale bijval voor de Haydn-opnamen ligt nog vers in het geheugen. Wat ligt meer voor de hand als het Jerusalem Quartet zich vandaag tot Mozart wendt? Het programma brengt drie kwartetten uit zeer verschillende creatieve periodes samen. De pas verankerde Weners droegen het middelste kwartet overigens op aan de meester Haydn in 1785; twaalf jaar eerder had de jongeling nog geëxperimenteerd met het model dat door Sammartini was overgeleverd in het "3e Milanese Kwartet" voordat hij zich uiteindelijk in 1789 afkeerde van de divertimento-vorm om een radicale vernieuwing van de kamermuziekpraktijk teweeg te brengen met zijn "2e Pruisische Kwartet".
