Deze cd bevat ontroerende koormuziek geschreven door twee van de belangrijkste componisten van de 20e eeuw. Bij de wereldpremière in 1986 werd het ‘Concerto for Chorus’ van Alfred Schnittke als ‘revolutionair’ bestempeld, terwijl Arvo Pärt nog steeds een van de meest populaire componisten van vandaag is.

Er mag best wat Nederlandse trots meespelen bij de cd van het Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks. Peter Dijkstra, tot 2016 artistiek leider, wist het niveau van het koor zo te verheffen dat het gezelschap door deze plaat met Schnittkes Konzert für Chor in 2014 een ECHO Klassik won als ‘ensemble van het jaar’. Het belangrijkste koorwerk van de Rus Alfred Schnittke, waarin hij de Russisch-orthodoxe kerkmuziek nieuwe lading geeft klinkt, net als de cantate Dopo la vittoria van Arvo Pärt, spatzuiver en adembenemend.
