Saint-Saens: Cello Concerto, Bacchanale & Symphony No.

In 2021 is het 100 jaar geleden dat Camille Saint-Saëns, de grote componist van de Franse romantiek, overleed. Astrig Siranossian, die onlangs opzien baarde met haar hommage-album aan Nadia Boulanger (ALP 635), speelt het eerste van de twee celloconcerten - begeleid door de Philharmonie Südwestfalen onder leiding van Nabil Shehata. Het werk, dat uit één deel bestaat, verrast meteen aan het begin door het hartstochtelijk felle gebruik van het solo-instrument. De hommage aan Saint-Saëns wordt afgerond met de zelden gehoorde Eerste Symfonie, die hij op achttienjarige leeftijd componeerde, en het beroemde Bacchanale uit de opera Samson et Dalila.
