Beethovens werken voor cello en piano zijn zo fascinerend omdat ze elke periode van zijn muzikale ontwikkeling bestrijken. Voor zijn uitstekende opname op ALPHA CLASSICS gebruikt Nicolas Altstaedt een instrument met darmsnaren (een Guadagnini uit 1749) en een klassieke strijkstok. Alexander Lonquich is al vele jaren Altstaedts vertrouwde recitalpartner en speelt hier op een originele Graf fortepiano uit 1826. De combinatie van deze instrumenten zorgt voor een transparante, fijn afgestemde klank en een scala aan buitengewone klankkleuren.
