"Zo klopt het lot aan de deur": van vermeende citaten tot de meest verwarde romantische interpretaties, de ontelbare commentaren die "De Vijfde" sinds zijn ontstaan hebben begeleid, zijn talrijk. Deze uitgave, onderdeel van harmonia mundi's serie ter viering van Beethovens jaar, combineert de iconische en geliefde Symphonie Nr. 5 van de componist met de veel minder bekende Symphonie à 17 parties van François-Joseph Gossec. De dramatische kracht en intensiteit van Beethoven staan in schril contrast met de vrolijke en galante muziek van Gossec. Les Siècles, onder leiding van François-Xavier Roth, geven in beide werken blijk van hun gebruikelijke virtuositeit en fijn muzikaal gevoel. Twee stukken geschreven op hetzelfde moment: Beethovens 5e Symfonie, hier goed gearticuleerd en briljant gespeeld, en de 'Symphonie à 17 parties' van de Fransman François-Joseph Gossec.
