Matthias Goerne zet zijn Schubert-reis voort, waaruit eens te meer blijkt dat hij een van de interessantste liedzangers is. De bariton "interpreteert" Schubert niet alleen, hij doorleeft elk afzonderlijk lied zonder toe te geven aan het gevaar van overdrijving, en hij nodigt zijn toehoorders uit om te delen in deze intieme poëtische en muzikale verkenningen. De zesde aflevering van deze serie gaat vergezeld van een bonus-cd van Schuberts laatste pianosonate, op weergaloze wijze vertolkt door Christoph Eschenbach, een van Goerne's favoriete pianopartners: Onder de handen van deze begenadigde meester worden tot nu toe ongehoorde dimensies van deze andere zwanenzang onthuld. De pijnlijk uitgerekte, bijna droomverloren interpretatie van de Sonate D. 960 is een enorm ontroerende verkenning van Schuberts late werk. Geen wonder dat Christoph Eschenbach een van Goerne's favoriete begeleiders op de piano is.
