Philippe Elan-vocals, Residentie Orkest the Hague, Jurjen Hempel-conductor

Philippe Elan’s new album, a passionate album with French chansons!

In February 2019 Philippe Elan gave an exclusive concert with the Residentie Orkest in ‘Het Paard’ in the Hague, conducted by Jurjen Hempel. “Singing with a symphony orchestra is a unique, different and exciting experience… and that was certainly the case with the Residentie Orkest.”
This magnificent collaboration was sealed in a one-concert-experience including unforgettable french chansons of Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour, Jacques Brel, Julien Clerc en Jean Ferrat. The live recording of this unique concert has now been released on Challenge Classics!

Ma France is an album about Philippe Elan’s attachment to France. “ I was given the chance of choosing the songs I wanted to sing”, French chansons, part of the French soul. This way, the chansonnier was able to tell his story in one concert. His story as a man and as a singer, about his heroes, his migration to Amsterdam, his prayers, his poems, his fears, his hopes and, of course: love. Now, Ma France can spread his story even further!

Born in Gascogne, he finds his inspiration in the great French chansonniers. In 1986 love brings Philippe to the Netherlands and in that same year he was off to a flying start by winning the chanson competition of the Alliance Française, the beginning of a long career. Ever since, he has frequently given solo programmes of French chansons in Dutch theatres. He also appears with artists such as Cor Bakker, Louis van Dijk and Laura Fygi. Together with the Gemini Ensemble, Philippe received an Edison Award for their album Chansons Classiques. Over the years, Philippe has made 12 albums and 2 DVD's.
