After the success of his stunning album ‘Otello’, revered tenor Jonas Kaufmann returns with the sensational new album ‘Selige Stunde’. ‘Selige Stunde’ is the first recital in a small series of recordings that Jonas has made during the Covid-19 crisis. This stunning album includes a varied and heart-felt selection of songs that cover the most prominent Lieder composers. All tracks are short and are often performed as encores. The theme of the lyrics centre around love, longing, peacefulness and farewell. Kaufmann is considered one of the greatest tenors of this generation. He has performed at the world’s most prestigious concert venues including the Royal Opera House in London and the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. Kaufmann has won numerous prestigious awards including Gramophone Awards and Echo Klassik Awards.

"Ook operazangers zaten tijdens de eerste coronagolf noodgedwongen thuis maar daarom zaten ze niet met hun duimen te draaien. Kaufmann maakte van de gelegenheid gebruik om met zijn goede vriend en vertrouwde collega, pianist Helmut Deutsch, een opname te maken op privéterrein, dus ik veronderstel bij Kaufmann of Deutsch thuis. In die intieme setting brachten ze hun favoriete, overwegend Duitse liedrepertoire of zoals pianist Helmut Deutsch het verwoordde: de persoonlijke playlist van hun bisnummers. Het resultaat is een bijzonder intimistische en uiterst naturelle uitvoering zonder franjes van een aantal liederen die hoofdzakelijk over de liefde gaan: de romantische liefde maar ook de liefde voor een kind, voor een oude moeder, transcendente liefde…..Kaufmann zei ooit in een interview dat hij het zingen van liederen niet meer moeilijk vond vanaf het moment dat hij begrepen had dat je dat gewoon met de grootste naturel moet doen. In zijn geval blijft die naturel ondersteund door een indrukwekkende techniek en het natuurlijke effect van het zingen met halve stem of “mezza voce” is in feite groot meesterschap."
