Kullervo is Jean Sibelius' eerste werk gebaseerd op het Finse nationale epos, de Kalevala, en is een fusion op grote schaal: Het is een epische symfonie, een cantate en een toongedicht in één. De eerste uitvoering in Helsinki in 1892 was een buitengewone triomf voor de componist, die toen pas 26 jaar oud was, en een belangrijke mijlpaal voor de nog jonge Finse nationale muziek. Thomas Dausgaard dirigeert het BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra
Benjamin Appl en Helena Juntunen kruipen in de huid van de verloren broers en zussen en het Lund Male Choir vertelt de plot van dit unieke werk op idiomatische en opwindende wijze.
