Boston Symphony Orchestra, Andris Nelsons

Samen met het Boston Symphony Orchestra vervolgt de Letse dirigent Andris Nelsons zijn Grammy-winnende cyclus van symfonieën van Sjostakovitsj met een opname van de Vierde en Elfde symfonie van de Russische componist. De "Vierde" van Sjostakovitsj, die al in 1936 werd geschreven, ging pas in 1961 in première, acht jaar na de dood van Stalin. De angst van Sjostakovitsj om de consequenties te moeten dragen voor zijn "on-Russische" composities was te groot. De dramatische en briljante nieuwe opname is qua personele bezetting gekoppeld aan de première: BSO violist Vyacheslav Uritsky was al betrokken bij de première in Moskou. Het album is het derde deel van Nelsons Sjostakovitsj-cyclus na de opnamen van zowel de 10e als de 5e, 8e en 9e symfonie, die enthousiast werden ontvangen door publiek en critici.
